The Principle of Industry

We’ve hired new staff! Well, not really, we just brought in free labor. That’s one of the perks of having children. 😆

As a homeschooling family, we have many opportunities to teach our children principles that are no longer taught in a school setting.

One principle that we believe is very important for our children to learn, is the principle of industry. The 1828 Webster dictionary defines industry as, “Habitual diligence in any employment, opposed to sloth and idleness...”.

Starting this kind of business requires a lot of work. There’s financial bookkeeping, dog training, record keeping of training logs, vet records, kennel care, marketing and promotion, social media networking, and so much more.

To teach the principle of industry we have given a business related task to each child that they will need to learn in order to help run and grow this business. Each task was designated based in the child’s strengths and weaknesses.

Ashley is very artistic and writes very well for her age so she will be in charge of photography, photo editing, and social media posts. She already has an understanding of photography but will need to expand that knowledge as well as learn how to use photoshop.

Brittany is also very artistic so she will be in charge of video editing and learning how to use iMovie. She is also good at math and will be learning Microsoft Excel and keeping up with the financial reports.

Michael Jr is quite mechanical and will get to learn how to fly the drone to get some nice aerial footage of our training sessions. He has already had a few lessons from PopnNana Drone so he’s off to a good start.

We are very excited to see how they will grow and learn from this little homeschool project!
